And just like that, September is over and October begins. Is it me or time just speeds up as you get older? In the blink of an eye, I am in my 9th year of teaching and first time teaching third grade. I love it and it is definitely keeping me busy. Despite that, I’m always looking for opportunities to explore this city to share with you! For the first time ever two weeks ago, I went to the rooftop bar at the famous Standard Hotel. Yes, the one where Solange Knowles (Beyonce’s sister) supposedly attacked Jay-Z in the elevator.
The Standard to me was always that mysterious hotel that was famous for its rooftop bar as well as the fact that since the High Line cuts through it, people are known to stand or pose naked by the windows so pedestrians can see. I always wondered what it was like to be inside. Well, here’s a peek at my experience!
Before you get to the very top, you have to walk through this indoor bar and jacuzzi. With black leather couches and bar service, it’s quite the place to chill especially in the winter time. Then once you get to the top, you have this incredible view of the World Trade Center and New Jersey.
There’s also the bar and a little hut that serves crepes. Just a shoutout to Itayetzi, the sweet woman beyond the crepe making whom I had a great conversation with. 🙂 There she is below making the crepes! We enjoyed the little snack with our glasses of Rosé and sunset stamps given at the entrance.
But my favorite part about my visit above all, is the fact that while my friend and I sat enjoying our food and drink, the sky exploded with colors during sunset. At first we took a few shots of the normal sunset that you might typically see, but next thing you know, it started changing colors. I kept snapping photos – and these were a few of the results!
It’s the New York City version of the Aurora Borealis. 🙂 This place never ceases to amaze you in new ways. If you get the chance and you want a nice city view, do visit the Standard. While drinks are an average of $15 per glass, you can probably get away with just going for the view and enjoying a $5 crepe instead. : )
OH YEAH. and stop by the bathroom before you head up to the rooftop or before you go into the elevator … you might just spend a few more extra minutes in there taking photos!
As always, thanks for reading! xoxo
